Frequently Asked Questions

Q. How long will the installation take?
A. Typically 3-4 working days

Q. Can it be used with my existing system?
A. Yes The system connects to your existing heating whether underfloor or radiators.

Q. How much mess will this make?
A. Very little, we will do our best to make good any difference to your grounds, including tarmac within car parks. This is included in the price quoted.

Q. I have been told I would need to have oversized radiators fitted.
A. this is based on old plumbing calculations. The constant heat of geothermal should be hotter than reheating a cold system periodically. Modern radiators should function well. The heat will be more consistent.

Q. What if my property is not suitable? What if the initial survey shows this is not the best system?
A. We will not proceed, it’s not in our interests, but we may be able to recommend a different system and to recommend alternative solutions. There will be no cost.

Q. What heat pump do you use, and how efficient are they?
A. The preferred heat pump manufacturer is Viessmann.  However we have access to alternatives according to your needs and requirments. Recommended pumps with a Coefficiency of Performance (CoP) of 4 would be installed.

Q. Is there a warranty with the pump?
A. Our pumps come with a minimum two year manufacturer’s warranty. However Heat Pumps tend to have a much longer life expectancy compared to traditional boiler systems. Often around 20 years dependent on use.

Q. Can I get rid of my old boiler?
A. Both of the above heat pumps have an integral DHW cylinder so there is no need to keep your existing hot water tank.

Q. Can this system be used to cool my property in the heat of summer?
A. If used with underfloor heating, the Heat Pumps can be used in summer for cooling (although some accessories are needed). Radiators may need to be modernised for this application.

Q. Are there any grants available?
A. We are constantly checking for new grants as they become available.

Q. Is there any follow up?
A. There is a follow up after each visit, and again after the installation.

Q. Why don’t you have prices shown on your site?
A. Because each property and ground is different, and we will tailor each installation to ensure the maximum efficiency to increase future savings. With larger properties you may need a second pump or another bore hole, whatever is required we will try to ensure we maximise the performance whilst keeping initial installation costs to a minimum.
Any price quoted will be a final price, there are no hidden costs or extras, and no ‘add-ons’ or nasty surprises.

Q. Will you have a salesman come to my home for hours, offering to keep lowering the price?
A. No you will not be visited by a salesperson, only by an experienced technical consultant, who will be able to work out your exact requirements. The price quoted is the price you will pay should you decide to proceed with this system.
If Drilline Energy do not believe this would be an efficient investment for you, we would not recommend this system. They may however be able to suggest a better alternative for you to use for your property.

Q. Why not use Solar Power?
A. You can use Solar Power as well. If you are using Solar Power alone it may not be suitable to heat enough hot water to provide central heating, although it can be suitable for showers, swimming pools and general domestic use of hot water.  There are grants available for Dual Core sytems. (Both Solar and Ground Source Heating).

Q.   Are Ground Source Heat Pumps dangerous? What about servicing and maintenance?
A.    There are no hazardous gas emissions, no flammable oil, LPG or gas pipes, no flue or chimney and no unsightly fuel tanks. GSHP systems have absolutely NO site emissions. There is no need for rigorous annual safety checks and maintenance is low.

Q. Is there a maintenance contract I have to take out?
A. No, but Drilline Energy offer a maintenance contract should you prefer this for peace of mind. Link to Service we provide
